Atomism and Quantization∗

چکیده
Within the framework of the theory of interacting classical and quantum gases it is shown that the atomistic constitution of gases can be understood as a consequence of (second) quantization of a continuum theory of gases. In this note this is explained in some detail for the theory of non-relativistic interacting Bose gases, which can be viewed as the second quantization of a continuum theory whose dynamics is given by the Hartree equation. Conversely, the Hartree equation emerges from the theory of Bose gases in the mean-field limit. It is shown that, for such systems, the time evolution of “observables” commutes with their Wick quantization, up to quantum corrections that tend to 0 in the mean-field limit. This is a Egorov-type theorem. This is a slightly modified version of an article published in J. Phys. A 40, 3033-3045, 2007. [email protected] [email protected] [email protected]

One Solved and One Unsolved Problem for Conceptual Atomism
In this talk I consider two problems for conceptual atomism. Conceptual atomism can be defended against the criticism that it seems to contend that all concepts are simply innate (even technical concepts to pre-technological humanoids) by specifying the innateness thesis as one of mechanisms of hooking up mental representations (concepts as language of thought types) to properties in the world ...
متن کاملThe Composition of Reasons
How do reasons combine? How is it that several reasons taken together can have a combined weight which exceeds the weight of any one alone? I propose an answer in mereological terms: reasons combine by composing a further, complex reason of which they are parts. eir combined weight is the weight of their combination. I develop a mereological framework, and use this to investigate some structur...
متن کاملBeyond Atomism
In this note, I present a problem for a certain natural view about the structure of the world. I show that this view is committed to a particular strengthening of atomism, which I call superatomism. Superatomism has some counterintuitive consequences (e.g. it rules out whatMarkosian [] calls the ‘pointy view’ of simples). I consider some ways of avoiding this commitment, and draw some additio...
متن کاملThe Psychological Implausibility of Naturalized Content
Conceptual Atomism (CA) is the view that psychological concepts are atoms (no internal structure, no necessary relations to other concepts). CA is a psychological/semantic theory. I show that CA has become mixed up with a separate, meta-semantic project that seeks to naturalize content, and that this Naturalized Conceptual Atomism has ended up in the self-defeating position of positing non-atom...
متن کاملDecrease in Hardware Consumption and Quantization Noise of Digital Delta-Sigma Modulators and Implementation by VHDL
A new structure is presented for digital delta-sigma modulator (DDSM). Novel architecture decreases hardware consumption, output quantization noise and spurs in Comparison to previous architectures. In order to reduce the delay, power consumption and increase maximum working frequency, the pipelining technique and the carry skip adder are used. Simulation proposed architecture shows that the qu...
